Go Backend Engineering
Go powers the cloud-native world — from Docker and Kubernetes to the APIs behind fast-scaling products. This track takes you deep into building reliable, concurrent services in Go: designing APIs, working with databases, testing, and shipping to the cloud. Project-driven and taught by practitioners.

- Building REST and gRPC APIs with common Go frameworks
- Relational databases, transactions and migrations in Go
- Testing, error handling, and building for reliability
- Containerising and deploying Go services to the cloud
- Working AI-natively: spec-driven development with AI coding agents in a Go codebase
The AI classes in this program
Every Lightspace program teaches the AI-native method — not a bolt-on module, but a working style woven through the projects.
- Spec-driven development with AI coding agents across every Go project
- Context engineering for Go codebases — conventions and project memory files agents follow
- The agent loop: review and verify AI-written Go before it merges
- AI-assisted testing, refactoring and debugging on real concurrent services
The curriculum

Modern Go
Weeks 1–3The language and tooling, types and interfaces, and writing clean, testable Go.
- 2
Concurrency & APIs
Weeks 4–6Goroutines and channels, then building REST and gRPC APIs that connect to PostgreSQL.
- 3
Test & harden
Weeks 7–9Testing, error handling, transactions and migrations, and building for reliability.
- 4
Ship it
Weeks 10–12Containerising with Docker, deploying to the cloud, and a capstone service you present and defend.
What you leave with
- A deployed, tested, concurrent Go service backed by PostgreSQL
- A portfolio project that stands up in a backend interview
- The fundamentals to grow into senior backend and platform roles
